5 ways to produce Sodium Hypochlorite with the best quality at the lowest cost
Chlorine and Caustic Soda are the raw materials that determine the efficiency of the production of Sodium Hypochlorite
Every producer of sodium hypochlorite is aware of the high cost of soda and chlorine, raw materials for its manufacture and despite the instability of prices, the efficient use of them determines the economy of the process. For that reason this material has been prepared where you will find five ways by which Powell Fabrication & Mfg. Inc will help you identify significant potential savings in both raw material consumption and sodium hypochlorite production and handling operations.
Reduction in the average concentration of Sodium Hypochlorite!
Producers who have good control of dilution points and excess caustic soda can reduce the average product concentration whenever they want.
For example, if we assume an annual production of 40,000 cubic meters of sodium hypochlorite with an average concentration of 165 gpl of available chlorine and assuming that the minimum concentration specified for the sale of hypochlorite is 155 gpl of available chlorine, it can be achieved by means of of improved production and control systems, a product with a concentration closer to that specified for sale, resulting in a product of 155 gpl of chlorine available in a stable and continuous way, saving in raw materials the equivalent to what was consumed for the manufacture of an 8 gpl product. The result is savings in the consumption of raw materials of:
Chlorine: 8 gpl x 40,000 = 320 tons
Caustic: 320 ton x 1,128 = 360 ton
Chlorine price / ton = US $ 150
Price of Soda / ton = US $ 350
Savings in Ton ECU: 360 x US $ 500 per ton = US $ 180,000 per year
Reduction in Excess Caustic Soda!
High excesses of caustic soda do not add stability to sodium hypochlorite, but they do cause a retarding effect on the bleaching capacity, therefore this only means more soda in the product than required. For example:
A production of 40,000 cubic meters of hypochlorite with a concentration of 165 gpl of available chlorine and an excess of caustic soda of 8 gpl. The same price of soda will be used from the previous example.
If the same 40,000 cubic meters of sodium hypochlorite are produced at a concentration of 165 gpl of available chlorine but with an excess of caustic soda of 3 gpl, the savings in Caustic Soda would be:
165 gpl @ 8gpl of excess soda will consume 320 tons of Soda
165 gpl @ 3gpl of excess soda will consume 120 tons of Soda
So the total soda saved is equal to 200 tons per year x US $ 350 per ton = US $ 70,000 per year
